After 10+ cruises and becoming a travel agent, I have created the ultimate packing list for a cruise: Having the right items packed ensures a smooth and enjoyable journey. I have linked my favorites and must have items.
Essentials:
Passport/ID and Cruise Documents: Ensure all necessary identification and cruise-related paperwork are packed in a secure, easily accessible location.
Travel Insurance: (if purchased) Carry proof of travel insurance coverage, including emergency contact information.
Medications: Bring a sufficient supply of any prescription medications you require, along with a basic first aid kit.
Credit Cards/Cash: Have both credit cards and some cash on hand for ports of call and tips.
Cruise Line App: Download the cruise line's app for real-time information on activities, dining, and schedules.
Clothing:
Swimwear: Pack swimwear for pool days or beach excursions.
Formal Wear: Depending on the cruise line, there may be formal nights. Pack appropriate attire for these occasions. 2-5 Day cruises, one formal night. 6+ day cruises, two formal nights.
Casual Clothing: Comfortable clothing for daytime activities, shore excursions, and casual dinners.
Jacket/Sweater: Even in warm destinations, evenings at sea can be breezy.
Rain Gear: A light rain jacket or poncho is handy for unexpected showers.
Swimsuits cover-ups: Essential for pool days and beach excursions.
Activewear: If you are planning on joining a yoga class, or working out in the gym.
Footwear:
Comfortable Walking Shoes: Essential for shore excursions and exploring ports of call.
Sandals/Flip-Flops: Ideal for the pool deck and beach outings.
Formal Shoes: If formal nights are part of your cruise, pack appropriate footwear.
Pro Tip: If you are planning an excursion that will get your shoes dirty, wear old shoes and toss them or give them to a local in need. We found in Belize they were happy to take our dirty shoes.
Tech and Gadgets:
Camera/GoPro: Capture memorable moments during excursions and activities.
Phone & Chargers: Bring chargers for your phone, camera, and any other electronic devices. I highly suggest THIS portable charger to use while out exploring.
Power Strip/Extension Cord: Cabins may have limited outlets, so a power strip can be convenient. It can NOT be a surge protector.
Adapters: If traveling internationally, bring the necessary power adapters.
Cabin Essentials:
Lanyard: Keep your cruise card easily accessible with a lanyard.
Small Backpack/Daypack: Useful for carrying essentials during shore excursions. A small backpack like THIS, is perfect. Don't get anything flashy or expensive for your safety.
Toiletries: While basic toiletries are usually provided, bring personal favorites and any specialty items you may need. I highly recommend you bring your own shampoo & conditioner.
Insect repellent
Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
Ziplock bags: Useful for wet swimsuits or storing snacks.
Basic First Aid Kit: Band-Aids, pain relievers, etc.
Hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes
After sun aloe or cream
Entertainment:
Books/Kindle: For downtime on sea days or relaxing evenings.
Travel Games/Deck of Cards: Entertainment for the whole family. (You can ask the casino if they have extra card decks, sometimes they will give you one.)
Headphones: Useful for enjoying entertainment without disturbing others.
Miscellaneous:
Sunscreen: Protect your skin during outdoor activities.
Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated, especially during excursions. This collapsable water bottle is a game changer! It is a must on vacations.
Snorkel Gear: If you plan on snorkeling at ports of call.
Travel Sewing Kit: Handy for minor clothing repairs . Even if you don't sew, we have used this on more than one cruise.
Laundry Bags: Keep dirty clothes separate for convenience.
Hats and sunglasses: Shield yourself from the sun.
Formal night accessories
